Dogs Stay Free in Oak and Birch Yurts

We welcome dogs of all breeds at The Secret Yurts

When taking over The Secret Yurts in late 2022, making the venue safe and suitable for dogs was one of the first big changes. Dogs are part of our family, and after many years running a successful dog training and behaviour business, Michelle has a good idea of how to make holidays with dogs more fun and relaxing!

Dogs can stay free of charge in Oak or Birch Yurts.

We don’t set a limit on how many dogs can come with you, however, you will be living in an 18ft diameter yurt which is furnished with a king-sized bed, chairs, and other items. You need to consider if, on a wet day for example, there is enough space for you and your dogs. Sometimes one exuberant medium sized dog needs more space than 3 elderly larger dogs – you know your dogs. Please be realistic when booking.

Dogs do need to stay on lead when not in your yurt or the dog exercise area. We are surrounded by fields with sheep, cattle and horses, and fencing is never 100% reliable – sheep and cattle have found ways through in the past, so an excited dog chasing a pheasant or squirrel could easily find themselves on the wrong side of a fence. It’s not a risk we are prepared to take with your dogs safety.

We also ask that they are not taken into the communal areas unless you are the only guests on site. For medical, cultural or religious reasons, not everyone feels comfortable around dogs, and as an inclusive venue we need to respect that. Similarly dogs often don’t enjoy strangers entering enclosed spaces with them - we hope you understand.

If you are bringing a canine friend or two with you, please add them as free ‘extras’ on the booking form. This allows us to prepare for their arrival. It's also really helpful to know a little more about them, such as their size, and whether they would prefer space around people or other dogs so we can make their stay as relaxed as possible. It’s their holiday too!

For the Dogs we provide

♡ A blanket to cover furniture or your bed, so your dog can share your yurt as they share your home. You don’t need to bring your own bedding.

♡ Dog bedding in addition to their own, which I recommend bringing to help them settle

♡ A dedicated fenced in area of woodland for off lead exercise and exploration, and which has a bench for you with fantastic views!

♡ Puppy pens to enclose a safe area on your yurt deck

♡ Long lines, double ended tether lines, and tether points on your deck and around the site so dogs can be secured ‘hands-free’ while you are relaxing in the hot tub or at the outdoor kitchen

♡ A Mud Daddy dog wash, plus fixed dog wash area

♡ A dog paddling pool (you have a hot tub – its only fair!)

♡ 5 acres of natural, private woodland to explore on lead, including a little stream for splashing in

♡ Treats and chews

♡ Dedicated freezer space for raw food

♡ Poo bags, and dedicated bins

♡ Cooling mats, bowls, toys, leads .... and much more!

Our Paddock

New for 2024 we now have a fully enclosed large paddock where you can engage in all manner of off-lead fun with or without a dog!
The dog exercise area is wooded with exciting long grass and bushes to explore.
In the paddock at the top of the hill is our Hilltop Lookout which is the location of Tally's Bench.
On a clear day the view along the valley towards Welshpool is epic.
On a clear night the celestial array visible away from all the light sources of the site is simply breathtaking.
Also on site we have a small stream in which our logs love to splash about.
